§1815. Louisiana Hall of Fame for the Arts; Northwestern State University; creation
A.There is hereby created the Louisiana Hall of Fame for the Arts which shall be
located at the A.
A.Fredericks Center for Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern
State University at Natchitoches and which shall be under the joint sponsorship of
Northwestern State University and the Jimmy D. Long, Sr. Louisiana School for Math,
Science, and the Arts. The hall of fame is established to honor and provide suitable
recognition to native and resident Louisianians who have demonstrated meritorious
development and achieved statewide, national, and international acclaim in the creative and
performing arts, namely, dance, music, theater/film, and visual arts.

A. There is hereby created the Louisiana Hall of Fame for the Arts which shall be
located at the A. A. Fredericks Center for Creative and Performing Arts at Northwestern
State University at Natchitoches and which shall be under the joint sponsorship of
Northwestern State University and the Jimmy D. Long, Sr. Louisiana School for Math,
Science, and the Arts. The hall of fame is established to honor and provide suitable
recognition to native and resident Louisianians who have demonstrated meritorious
development and achieved statewide, national, and international acclaim in the creative and
performing arts, namely, dance, music, theater/film, and visual arts.
B. Elections to the Louisiana Hall of Fame for the Arts shall be made by the election
board of the hall of fame and shall be made in accordance with guidelines and eligibility
requirements set out in the constitution of the hall of fame.
C. The election board of the hall of fame shall be composed of nine members, all
representative of the arts named above, who shall be appointed by the governor for terms of
five years, except that in making his initial appointments, the governor shall appoint one
member to serve for a term of one year, two for two years, two for three years, two for four
years, and two for five years. The board shall include representation from the following:
(1) Public and private institutions of higher learning in the state.
(2) State, regional, and city arts councils.
(3) Performing arts journalists.
(4) A representative of the Jimmy D. Long, Sr. Louisiana School for Math, Science,
and the Arts and a representative of Northwestern State University, who shall serve as
cochairpersons of the board.
D. The election board shall elect a secretary, and may elect other officers as deemed
necessary for its efficient operation. Members of the board shall serve without
compensation. The board shall appoint from its membership an executive committee which
shall draft a constitution for the Louisiana Hall of Fame for the Arts. The constitution shall
become effective upon approval by the election board.
E. Nominations to the hall of fame shall be made by any interested person and
presented in writing to the board in accordance with the guidelines and procedures outlined
in the constitution of the hall of fame.
F. Those persons elected to the hall of fame shall be presented with appropriate
awards, and an appropriate public display commemorating the achievements of the recipients
shall be placed at the site selected for the hall of fame in the A. A. Fredericks Center for
Creative and Performing Arts at Natchitoches.
