In the event the daily compensation paid to a member of this system is reduced by an amount paid to a substitute, the employee and employer contributions to the system shall be the same amount as if no deduction was made from the member's salary for the substitute. In the event the total daily compensation of a member of the system is not paid by the employer, even if a substitute is paid by the employer, no employee or employer contribution shall be deducted or paid to the retirement system by the employer for days that no compensation is paid. When no compensation is paid and the employer does not place the employee on official leave without pay, the employee shall be entitled to purchase such time and the cost may be paid by either the employee or employer, or both.
