(a)In order to protect the health and welfare of the contestants, there shall be a mandatory medical suspension of any contestant who loses consciousness or who has been injured as a result of blows received to the head or body during a regulated sports contest, bout or semi-professional elimination contest. A medical suspension shall be for a period of time not to exceed 180 days. The determination of consciousness is to be made only by a physician licensed by the board of healing arts and by the commission pursuant to this act. Prior to releasing a contestant from medical suspension, the commission may require a contestant on medical suspension to undergo any medical test deemed necessary to prove such contestant is medically fit.
