(a)Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, any member who is a member of the legislature who is also employed by another participating employer of the Kansas public employees retirement system other than the legislature and is an eligible employee as defined in K.S.A. 74-4902, and amendments thereto, may retire from service from such other participating employer and may continue to serve as a member of the legislature, except that, commencing January 8, 2001, such member of the legislature shall not receive any retirement benefit for any month for which such member of the legislature serves when compensation as provided in subsection (e) is paid in an amount equal to $15,000 or more, or commencing in calendar year 2006, and all calendar years thereafter, $20,000 or more in a
