Any school employee may elect to have his school annuity paid under one of the options provided in this section in lieu of having it paid as provided by K.S.A. 72-1761 and any amendments thereto. Such election must be made at least one (1) year before date of actual retirement unless the school employee submits evidence, satisfactory to the board, of his good health: Provided, That if option A is elected, and the spouse or a dependent of the member is named joint annuitant, such good health requirement will be waived. A specific person must be designated as joint annuitant at the time of election of option A or B. The amount of retirement benefit payable under an option shall be based on the age and sex of the school employee and, if applicable, the age and sex of the joint annuitant, and
