(a)(1)* There is hereby created the designation of inactive certificate. The board is authorized to issue an inactive certificate to any person currently certified by the board who makes written application for such inactive certificate on a form provided by the board and remits the fee established by the board in rules and regulations. The board may issue an inactive certificate only to a person who is not directly engaged in the provision of emergency medical services for which certification is required and who does not hold oneself out to the public as being professionally engaged in the provision of emergency medical services.
