(a)The board shall have authority, upon presentation of satisfactory credentials and under such rules and regulations as the board may prescribe, to issue a permit to a graduate of an approved dental school or college who has not been licensed to practice dentistry in this state, and who has not failed to pass an examination for licensure in this state, to serve as a dental intern for a period of not more than one year in state maintained and operated hospitals, or the department of health and environment of the state of Kansas that may offer such a position if such hospitals maintain a recognized resident staff of one or more licensed dentists.
