There is hereby established within and as a part of the Kansas department of commerce a division of tourism, the head of which shall be the director of tourism. The purpose of the division of tourism shall be to increase the number of visitors to Kansas by promoting the state as a travel and learning opportunity to both Kansans and non-Kansans alike. Under the supervision of the secretary of commerce, the director of tourism shall administer the division of tourism. The secretary of commerce shall appoint the director of tourism and the director shall serve at the pleasure of the secretary. The director of tourism shall be in the unclassified service under the Kansas civil service act and shall receive an annual salary fixed by the secretary of commerce and approved by the governor.
