§ 20-31-3-1 — Adoption of academic standards; standards aligned with science of reading

Indiana·Title 20 EDUCATION·Art. 31 ACCOUNTABILITY FOR PERFORMANCE AND·Ch. 3 Adoption of Academic Standards
(a)Subject to section 2.5 of this chapter, the state board shall adopt clear, concise, and jargon free state academic standards that are comparable to national and international academic standards and the college and career readiness educational standards adopted under IC 20-19-2-14.5. These academic standards must be adopted for each grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 for the following subjects:
(1)English/language arts.
(2)Mathematics.
(3)Social studies.
(4)Science.
(b)Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the state board, in developing academic standards for reading, shall implement academic standards that are:
(1)aligned with the science of reading; and
