Not later than July 1, 2024, a teacher preparation program (as described in IC 20-28-3-1), including an alternative teacher certification program (as described in IC 20-28-5-12.5), that offers a course of study for teacher candidates or program participants who seek to obtain an elementary generalist license that is valid for teaching in kindergarten through grade 5, an early childhood license that is valid for teaching prekindergarten through grade 3, or a license to teach special education shall include content within the curriculum that:

(1)is aligned to the science of reading; and
(2)prepares teacher candidates or program participants to obtain the literacy endorsement required under IC 20-28-5-19.7.
