Upon the creation of a new village as specified in Sections 2-3-10 through 2-3-15 village officers shall be elected in the manner prescribed in Section 2-3-7. Until such officers are elected and have qualified, the officers of the original village or incorporated town shall have jurisdiction over the new village. Upon the election and qualification of the officers of the new village, the terms of all officers of the original village or incorporated town held by residents of the new village, who continue to reside in the new village, shall be terminated, and these latter officers shall cease to act when their successors have been elected, or appointed, and have qualified.
