§ 16-135 — Supplementary retirement annuity

(a) An annuitant who is receiving a retirement annuity on June 30, 1961 of less than $50 for each year of creditable service forming the basis of the retirement annuity shall have his or her retirement annuity increased to $50 per year for each year of such creditable service, but not exceeding a total annual retirement annuity of $2,250. (b) In order to be entitled to the increase in retirement annuity provided under this Section, an annuitant is required to make an additional contribution of $5 for each year of creditable service, not to exceed 45 years together with interest at the rate of 3% per annum from August 25, 1961. (c) The supplementary retirement annuity provided under this Section shall begin to accrue on the first of the month following receipt of the required contribution from the annuitant.
