Election or appointment of county assessors or county supervisors of assessments.

(a)In counties with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants, the county may change the manner in which it selects its county assessor or county supervisor of assessments upon:
(1)adoption of an ordinance by the county board or county board of commissioners requiring the county assessor or county supervisor of assessments to be elected or appointed, as applicable; or (2) the filing of a petition with the county board or the county board of commissioners, subject to the petition requirements of Section 28-3 of the Election Code and signed by 2% of the registered voters of the county, requiring the county assessor or county supervisor of assessments to be elected or appointed, as applicable.
