(a)In this Section: "Blowout preventer" means an emergency shut-off valve installed on the wellhead during the drilling or testing of a well that incorporates hydraulic pipe rams capable of closing the space around the drillpipe against very high pressure. "Conductor pipe" means a short string of large-diameter casing used to keep the top of the wellbore open and to provide a means of conveying the up-flowing drilling fluid from the wellbore to the mud pit. "Gas detector" means a mechanical, electrical, or chemical device that automatically identifies and records or registers the levels of various gases.
