(1)Fire protection district commissioners may receive reasonable compensation for their services as commissioners. The fire protection board shall fix commissioner benefits and compensation for the fiscal year. Compensation for performing district business shall not exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per day. If a city, county, state or federal declaration of emergency or disaster exists within the boundaries of the fire protection district, the board may set special compensation for commissioners by a resolution that shall be applied to commissioner compensation only upon a majority vote of the board and shall continue only for as long as the city, county, state or federal declaration of emergency or disaster remains in effect within the boundaries of the fire protection district.
