1.The director shall determine the number and compensation of subordinate officers and employees for each institution subject to chapter 8A, subchapter IV. Subject to this chapter, the officers and employees shall be appointed and discharged by the superintendent or district director, as applicable, who shall keep in the record of each subordinate officer and employee, the date of employment, the compensation, and the date of and the reasons for each discharge.
2.The superintendents, district directors, and employees of the correctional institutions shall receive salaries or compensation as determined by the director, shall receive a midshift meal when on duty, and shall be provided uniforms if uniforms are required to be worn when on duty. The uniforms shall be maintained and replaced
