1.Persons who were covered by county employee life insurance and accident and health insurance plans prior to becoming state employees as a result of this chapter shall be permitted to apply prior to becoming state employees for life insurance and health and accident insurance plans that are available to state employees so that those persons do not suffer a lapse of insurance coverage as a result of this chapter. The supreme court, after consulting with the state comptroller, shall prescribe rules and distribute application forms and take other actions as necessary to enable those persons to elect to have insurance coverage that is in effect on the date of becoming state employees.
