The Legislature designates December 21, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year as a Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day to bring attention to the tragedy of homelessness. The State Office on Homelessness, local homeless coalitions, and local governments are encouraged to sponsor events to promote awareness of the plight of the homeless and identify actions that individuals and organizations can take to address the problem of homelessness.
