§ 47-3701 — Definitions.

District of Columbia·Title 47 Taxation, Licensing, Permits, Assessments, and Fees. [Enacted title]·Ch. 37 Inheritance and Estate Taxes.

For the purpose of this chapter, the term:

(A)"Cost-of-living adjustment" means the ratio of CPI for the preceding calendar year and the CPI for the base year.
(B)For the purposes of this paragraph, the term:
(i)"Base year" means the calendar year beginning January 1, 2017.
(ii)"CPI" means, for any calendar year, the average of the Consumer Price Index for the Washington-Baltimore Metropolitan Statistical Area for All-Urban Consumers published by the Department of Labor, or any successor index, as of the close of the 12-month period ending on July 31 of such calendar year. (1A) “Council” means the Council of the District of Columbia.
(2)“Decedent” means a deceased person who died on or after April 1, 1987.
