§ 32-41p — Workplace center of excellence program.

(a) There is established a workplace center of excellence program to be administered by Connecticut Innovations, Incorporated for the purpose of developing and deploying ergonomic technology solutions and knowledge. During the three-month period beginning on July 1, 1994, the corporation shall accept applications from eligible institutions in a form and manner prescribed by the corporation for state funding for the establishment and operation of a workplace center of excellence. (b) On or before January 1, 1995, the corporation shall review all applications timely received pursuant to this section, approve one such application and provide the approved institution with such financial assistance as the corporation may determine will promote the purposes of this section. In approving such application the corporation shall assess scientific and economic factors concerning the proposed center, including but not limited to, the following: (1) The formal participation in, and financial support of, the center by employers, insurers, and enterprises actively engaged in developing and deploying ergonomics solutions and related activities; (2) The likelihood that the center will result in substantial and timely deployment of advanced technology solutions to existing businesses in the state; (3) The center's plan to involve employers, labor, institutions of higher education and other interested parties in its decision-making; (4) The adequacy of the center's financial plan, including the matching of any state grant funds to implement specific projects with at least an equal amount of funding from private sources; (5) The center's plan to involve urban residents and urban-based businesses; and (6) The adequacy of the center's mechanisms for evaluating its progress.
