Within two months prior to the expiration of the maximum term of confinement authorized for any patient under section 17a-567, the director of the hospital may, upon the recommendation of the board, initiate proceedings under section 17a-497 or 17a-520 for the commitment or further commitment, as the case may be, of the patient.
