(a)The Commissioner of Children and Families shall, upon application of any public or private organization or agency, make grants, within available appropriations, to develop and maintain programs for the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect, including, but not limited to, child protection teams and parent aid programs.

(b)The Commissioner of Children and Families shall, upon application of any public or private organization or agency, make grants, within available appropriations, to develop and maintain programs for juvenile criminal diversion. See Sec. 17a-101 re protection of children from abuse.

(b) authorizing commissioner, effective July 1, 1982, to make grants to develop and maintain juvenile criminal diversion programs; Sec. 17-446 transferred to Sec. 17a-49 in 1991; P.A. 93-91 substituted commissioner and department of children and families for commissioner and department of children and youth services, effective July 1, 1993; P.A. 96-194 amended Subsec. (a) by deleting a provision prohibiting a grant from providing more than 75% of the total cost of any program.
