Text
(a)No person or motor carrier, as defined in 49 CFR Section 390.5, as amended from time to time, shall operate on the highways of this state any motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles described in subsection (a) of section 14-163c unless it has had a periodic inspection as required under 49 CFR Section 396.17, as amended from time to time, during the preceding twelve months.
(b)No person, dealer or repairer licensed in accordance with section 14-52 or motor carrier, as defined in 49 CFR Section 390.5, as amended from time to time, shall perform a periodic inspection in a manner other than as prescribed in 49 CFR Sections 396.17, 396.19 and 396.21, as amended from time to time.

(c) to require false statement be made “knowingly”, provide that any person, licensed dealer or repairer or motor carrier “who violates the provisions of this subsection shall be charged with a violation of section 53a-157b”, rather than “may be subject to the penalties prescribed in section 53a-157b”, and provide that such penalty is in addition to the “civil” penalties prescribed by section and amended Subsec. (d) to authorize civil penalty for a violation of Subsec. (c), specify civil penalty is after notice and hearing in accordance with Ch. 54, replace “penalties prescribed in subsection (e) of section 14-163c” with “civil penalties authorized in subsection (e) of section 14-163c and prescribed under 49 CFR 396.17” and delete criminal penalty for violation of Subsec. (c), effective June 6, 2012.
