(a)Each local and regional board of education shall provide to the Department of Education such information on race, ethnicity and disability category of children requiring special education and related services as the department requires for purposes of reports pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 20 USC 1400 et seq.
(b)The department shall examine such information to determine if significant disproportionality based on race is occurring in the state with respect to (1) the identification of children requiring special education and related services, including the identification of children requiring such education and related services due to a particular impairment, and (2) the placement in particular settings of such children.
