(a)Route 68 is from:
(1)Asilomar State Beach to Route 1.
(2)Monterey to Route 101 in Salinas.
(b)
(1)Upon a determination by the commission that it is in the best interests of the state to do so, the commission may, upon terms and conditions approved by it, relinquish to the City of Pacific Grove or the County of Monterey the portion of Route 68 described in paragraph (1) of subdivision (a) located within the jurisdiction of the city or the unincorporated area of the county, respectively, if the department and the city or county
enter into an agreement providing for that relinquishment.
(2)A relinquishment under this subdivision shall become effective immediately following the county recorder’s recordation of the relinquishment resolution concerning the commission’s approval of
