(a)
On or before August 1, 1994, the commission shall develop complaint guidelines to be followed by city police departments, county sheriffs’ departments, districts, and state university departments, for peace officers who are victims of sexual harassment in the workplace. In developing the complaint guidelines, the commission shall consult with appropriate groups and individuals having an expertise in the area of sexual harassment.
(b)
The course of basic training for law enforcement officers shall, no later than January 1, 1995, include instruction on sexual harassment in the workplace. The training shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
(1)
The definition of sexual harassment.
(2)
A description of sexual harassment, utilizing examples.
(3)
The illegality of sexual harassment.
(4)
The complaint process, legal remedies, and protection from retaliation available to victims of sexual harassment.
In developing this training, the commission shall consult with appropriate groups and individuals having an interest and expertise in the area of sexual harassment.
(c)
All peace officers who have received their basic training before January 1, 1995, shall receive supplementary training on sexual harassment in the workplace by January 1, 1997.
