§ 128252. — 128252. (Added by Stats. 2022, Ch. 47, Sec. 33.)

(a)
The council shall have the powers and authority necessary to carry out the duties imposed upon it by this chapter, including, but not limited to, the following:
(1)
Develop graduate medical education and workforce training and development priorities for the state.
(2)
Discuss and make recommendations to the Department of Health Care Access and Information regarding the use of health care education and training funds appropriated by the Legislature for programs administered by the department under this part.
(3)
Develop standards and guidelines for residency and health professions education and training programs
funded under this part.
(4)
Review outcomes data from funded programs, as provided to the council by the department, to reprioritize and reassess the graduate medical education and health professions education and training needs of California’s communities.
(5)
Explore options for developing a broad graduate medical education and health professions education and training funding strategy.
(6)
Advocate for additional funds and additional sources of funds to stimulate expansion of graduate medical education and health professions education and training in California.
(7)
Provide technical assistance and support for establishing new graduate medical education and health professions education and training programs in California.
(8)
Review and recommend health professions career pathways or ladders.
(b)
The council shall carry out the duties imposed upon it by this chapter with primary consideration given to increasing workforce diversity and furthering improved access, quality, and equity of health care for underserved, underrepresented, and Medi-Cal populations. Further, the council shall carry out the duties imposed upon it by this chapter with a primary focus on primary care, behavioral health, oral health, and allied health.
