(a)This article shall be known, and may be cited, as the Local Drinking Water Protection Act.
(b)For purposes of this article, “MTBE” means methyl tertiary-butyl ether.
(c)Commencing January 1, 1998, the State Department of Health Services shall commence the process for adopting a primary drinking water standard for MTBE that complies with the criteria established under Section 116275. The State
Department of Health Services shall establish a primary drinking water standard for MTBE on or before July 1, 1999. The State Department of Health Services may, at its discretion, set primary drinking water standards for other oxygenates.
(d)On or before July 1, 1998, the State Department of Health Services shall adopt a secondary drinking water standard that complies with the criteria es
