The director shall appoint, in consultation with the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Rules and the Speaker of the Assembly, an advisory committee to advise the department regarding methods for minimizing the environmental impact of low-level wastes, criteria for siting low-level waste treatment and burial facilities, alternatives to land burial of low-level waste, and waste classification schemes. The committee shall include representatives from the field of medicine, and from research, industrial, environmental, and public health organizations, who have demonstrated expertise and experience with radioactive materials, waste management, the health effects of exposure to low-level waste, or the environmental impact associated with the storage of low-level waste.
