The purpose of this article is to facilitate and support the creation of health promoting eating environments in California. For purposes of this article, the following definitions apply:

(a)
(1)“Category of food” means the following groups of food:
(A)Fruits.
(B)Vegetables.
(C)Grains.
(D)Cereals.
(E)Beans, peas, and lentils.
(F)Nuts, seeds, and soy products.
(G)Beverages.
(H)Dairy.
(I)Seafood.
(J)Poultry.
(K)Meat.
(L)Eggs.
(M)Condiments.
(N)Fats and oils.
(O)Herbs and spices.
(2)The department, by rule, may expand, clarify, or subdivide the groups of food enumerated in paragraph (1).
(b)“Department” means the State Department of Public Health.
(c)“Food” means all food and beverages intended for sale or to be served to school pupils on campus during the schoo
