The board of supervisors may adopt a system of insurance for the benefit of physicians, nurses, and any or all other persons employed in county institutions or county health departments. It may procure life and disability insurance for the benefit of such employees from any admitted insurer and pay the whole or any part of the premiums upon such insurance from the general fund or the salary fund, as part of the compensation of the employees. The board may deduct from the compensation of such employees and apply to the payment of the premiums that part thereof determined by it to be payable by the employees.
