(a)The office of the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges shall award grants to community college districts for the purpose of developing curricula and pilot programs that provide training to licensed nurses, including, but not necessarily limited to, training in the following nursing specialty areas:
(1)Critical care.
(2)Emergency.
(3)Obstetrics.
(4)Pediatrics.
(5)Neonatal intensive care.
(6)Operating room.
(b)A grant application shall include all of the following:
(1)Demonstration that a shortage of trained nurses in the areas listed in subdivision (a) exists in the region served by the applicant and a description of the manner in which the proposed program would reduce that shortage.
