§ 6-15-1003 — Academically competent students

(a) (1) Arkansas public school students will achieve competency in the basic core of knowledge and skills. (2) Students will meet required standards in academic areas of the curriculum that will serve as a basis for students to pursue immediate and lifelong educational and employment opportunities. (3) Students will achieve competency in: (A) Language arts, writing, spelling, speaking, listening, and reading; (B) Math, computation, measurement, probability and statistics; (C) Problem solving, basic algebra, data analysis, and geometry concepts; (D) Science, physical and life science knowledge and scientific problem solving; and (E) Social studies, history, geography, economics, and civic education. (b) (1) Arkansas public school students will apply practical knowledge and skills. (2) Students will meet required academic standards in those areas that will better prepare them for lifelong career opportunities. (3) Students will achieve competency at the local level in computer science and other technologies and in practical economic and consumer skills and will be offered courses in vocational preparation skills. (c) (1) Arkansas public school students will demonstrate achievement. (2) School districts, schools, and students shall participate in the state assessments in the basic core of knowledge and skills as defined by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education in the Arkansas Educational Support and Accountability Act, § 6-15-2901 et seq.
