§ 21-4-206 — Sick leave - When granted - Definition

(a) (1) Sick leave with pay shall be granted to employees when they are incapacitated for the performance of their duties by sickness, injury, or for medical, dental, or optical treatment. (2) Sick leave may not be granted for slight illness or indisposition not incapacitating the employee for the performance of his or her regular duties. (b) (1) Sick leave may also be granted employees due to a death or serious illness of a member of the employee's immediate family. (2) For the purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" means the father, mother, sister, brother, husband, wife, child, grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, in-laws, or any individual acting as parent or guardian of an employee. (3) As used in subdivision (b)(2) of this section, "child" includes a child in foster care who has been placed in the home of the employee.
