Text

(a)The council by a majority vote of the whole qualified membership of the council shall appoint a city manager, who shall be an officer of the city and shall have the powers and perform the duties in this part provided. No council member shall receive the appointment during the term for which he or she shall have been elected, nor within one year after the expiration of his or her term; nor shall he or she receive any appointment as city manager under Section 45-57A-63.62 during the term for which he or she shall have been elected. The civil service act, if any, applicable to the city shall not apply to the approval or the removal of the city manager.
