Eight percent of the salary of every uniformed officer with less than 30 years of service shall be deducted from his or her pay and shall be transferred to the fund on a monthly basis. No amounts shall be deducted from the pay of a uniformed officer who has at least 30 years of service. Records shall be kept by the board showing the amount contributed by each uniformed officer. The uniformed officers’ contributions required by this section are mandatory. The contributions under this section are designated as member contributions; however, the contributions shall be picked up by the city and shall be treated as paid by the city in lieu of contributions by members in accordance with Section 414(h)(2) of the code.
