Those persons eligible under either subsections (a) or (b) of Section 45-45-235, having served 30 years as a Madison County law enforcement officer, eight of which were served as Sheriff of Madison County, shall be entitled to receive an amount equal to 75 percent of the monthly salary paid such person at the time of the completion of his or her service in office, but in no event shall any person receive payments pursuant to both the supernumerary and disability supernumerary provisions simultaneously. All payments shall be paid from the general fund of the county in which the eligible person is serving upon his or her election to become a supernumerary sheriff or to become a supernumerary sheriff due to disability.
