(a)A new compensation and mileage allowance schedule for the Coroner and Chief Deputy Coroner of Jackson County, Alabama, shall be determined by the county commission and shall be payable in the manner prescribed by the county commission from the county general fund. Such compensation and allowance schedule shall be established by resolution duly adopted and spread upon the minutes of the county commission and shall be in lieu of any county compensation and mileage allowances heretofore provided by law for such coroner and deputy coroner. Such new compensation and mileage schedule shall become effective at the beginning of the next term of office for such coroner and deputy coroner.

(b)The Coroner of Jackson County is hereby authorized and directed to appoint two deputy coroners, one of

(a) A new compensation and mileage allowance schedule for the Coroner and Chief Deputy Coroner of Jackson County, Alabama, shall be determined by the county commission and shall be payable in the manner prescribed by the county commission from the county general fund. (b) The Coroner of Jackson County is hereby authorized and directed to appoint two deputy coroners, one of whom shall reside in the western half of the county and one of whom shall reside in the eastern half of the county, who shall have authority to exercise all of the functions pertaining to the coroner’s office. The compensation and mileage allowance for such deputy coroners shall be set by the county commission in the same manner as prescribed in subsection (a) for coroner and deputy coroner. Such compensation and mileage allowance shall be paid in the usual manner from the county general fund.
