(a)There is hereby created the Department of Senior Services of the State of Alabama, which shall be under the direction and control of the Commissioner of the Department of Senior Services.

(b)There is created an advisory board of directors that shall consist of 17 members and shall advise the commissioner in the administration of the department. The advisory board shall be composed of two members of the Senate to be appointed by the President of the Senate; two members of the House of Representatives to be appointed by the Speaker of the House; the Secretary of the State Department of Labor or his or her designee, the State Health Officer or his or her designee, and the Commissioner of the State Department of Human Resources or his or her designee, as ex officio members; and 10 members

(b) There is created an advisory board of directors that shall consist of 17 members and shall advise the commissioner in the administration of the department. Of the members appointed by the Governor, one shall be a representative of business, one shall be a representative of labor, one shall be a representative of the medical profession, three shall be representatives of senior citizen organizations, one shall be a representative of an organization serving individuals with disabilities, and the remaining three shall be responsible residents of the state. Upon reappointment, the membership of the board shall be inclusive and reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state. The name of any designee to the advisory board of directors authorized by this chapter shall be submitted in writing to the Commissioner of the Department of Senior Services.
