(a)The board may permit licensed dental hygienists to administer infiltration anesthesia under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. The board may promulgate rules further limiting the administration of infiltration anesthesia by dental hygienists. In order to administer infiltration anesthesia, a dental hygienist shall possess a dental hygiene infiltration anesthesia permit issued by the board. To receive a dental hygiene infiltration anesthesia permit from the board, a dental hygienist shall apply on an application form approved by the board, submit the appropriate application fee, and have been engaged in the active practice of dental hygiene for the 12 months immediately preceding initial application.
