Opinion

Davis, J.

Gentlemen of the jury: The prisoner at the bar stands indicted for the crime of murder in the first degree. That crime has long been defined in this State by statute; but on the 29th day of May, only a few days before the occurrence of the act upon which the present charge is based, the Legislature of this State passed a law altering, in material respects, the then existing statute on the subject of murder.
