: This cafe mull be governed by the law as it ftood when the defcent was call. The llatute palled at the revifion of the laws in the year 1784 can have no retrofpeél to cafes which happened before. By the conílruélion ufually given to the llatute before the revifion, the mother was next of kin and ought to fucceed as heir to the fon in exclu-fion of uncles and aunts.
