Full Text
A State Treasurer and an Auditor of Public Accounts shall be elected as herein provided, who shall hold their office for the term of four (4) years, and shall possess the same qualifications as required for the Secretary of State. They shall receive such compensation as may be provided by law.

NOTE: The 1966 amendment to Section 134 of the Constitution by Laws, 1966, ch. 692, which eliminated the prohibition against the treasurer and the auditor of public accounts immediately succeeding each other in office, and the prohibition against the auditor of public accounts immediately succeeding himself in that office, was proposed by House Concurrent Resolution No. 38, adopted at the 1966 regular session of the Legislature, and upon ratification by the electorate on November 8, 1966, was inserted by proclamation of the Secretary of State on November 23, 1966, by virtue of the authority vested in him by Section 273 of the Constitution, as amended. The 1986 amendment to Section 134 of Article 5 of the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 was proposed by ch. 634, Laws, 1986 (Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 513), and upon ratification by the electorate on November 4, 1986, was inserted as part of the Constitution by proclamation of the Secretary of State on November 20, 1986.
